When it comes to the story "Geese" by Z.Z Packer the setting wasn't just a place, it actually had a significant meaning behind it. The setting in this story wasn't just based on his personal obstacles he's gone through within his lifetime, but also about the cultural throughout this story. Packer elaborated on the differences between the American culture and also the ethnicity in regards to Japan which was less diverse. Packer showed this when the character who was considered the "main character" Dina" left for more opportunities, and etc. to come to this place where she knew no one. When Dina came to this place she began to become homesick, due to the fact that it was tremendously different from what she'd grown to know as "home". Japan wasn't a place that someone like Dina should've up and gone to, even I wouldn't. One of the major differences was that the language is different, which made this story more interesting to us all. I could only imagine how she felt, knowing that the decision wasn't considered so much of a "smart decision" I'm sure we can all relate to doing this as well. When Packer was trying to show the differences between the American Culture, and the Japan Culture he said..."You go 'head on and learn that language. Find out what they saying about us over at Chong's" "Chong's is Chinese, Miss Gloria" "Same difference". Pg 194.This example, showed how a person whether their Black,White,Mexican,etc. treat other people who aren't considered to be like themselves. Unlike the American Culture, where compared to Japan were more welcoming to diversity. In Japan it's more likely to find them with more racial division and their disapproving ways they have when it comes to African Americans. In the final analysis, this story is showing us how when you judge people based off of their differences, and color it can have a impact on that person ability to actually try to learn that culture, and make it to their own likening. Overall, this story is one of my favorites thus far! Mainly because of the diversity displayed in this story, everyone that lived in the house were of different ethnicity, which meant that they were able to share things that were different in regards to their culture,
When I was doing this post I decided to look at Demarshun for my male and for my female I chose Dainty. When reading Demarshun post his view on women was " the modern day woman in majority of households is the head of that household. I remember there was a time, when the "man of the house" made decisions and those decisions was the law of that house". whereas, when reading Dainty post she feels as if , "most women play the role of both wife and mother, but also as a contributing and equal member of the household and society". When reading each of these post they both shared a similar thought in regards to women having more say so, then back in the day.
I love the way you instinctively picked up on the fact that even though everyone in the house were different ethnically, they all got along as they were in the same position. This to me represented the fact that no matter where we are from and how we look, our circumstances can make us identical.

I agree that the setting proved Japan to not be as diverse as american, and I love that you made that connection of all of them living together all as different ethnicity but yet, the same. They all needed each other, and I think that is how they made it as far as they did, before Dina had to turn to prostitution, unfortunately.
